In search of some fun accessories for our new office space, we came across this DIY pendant lamp made of plastic cups and had to give it a try. It’s super simple, inexpensive, and makes for a funky yet classy accessory that most people would never guess is DIY.

Let’s start with the supplies you will need…
  • 50 Clear Plastic Cups (We used Solo brand)
  • Heavy Duty Stapler
  • 1 Strand of White String Lights
  • Mini Clothes Pins
Once you’ve gathered your supplies, follow these simple steps. Take a look at the photos below to help guide you through the process.
1. Divide 50 cups into two stacks of 12, two stacks of 9, and two stacks of 4
2. Drill a hole in the base of each cup
3. Lay 12 cups in a circle, then staple them together
4. Repeat step 3, using only 9 cups
5. Lay the circle of 9 cups onto the circle of 12 cups and staple together
6. Add and staple final circle of 4 cups
7. Repeat steps 3-6 with remaining cups
8. Thread the string of lights through the bases of the cups
9. Once the lights are in place, staple the two half spheres together
